2025 Summer Intership

Over this past summer, I completed an Mechanical Engineering Design internship with PRC-Saltillo, a medical device company in Wooster, OH. I gained lots of real world experience in engineering.

One of the projects I worked on over the summer was designing layouts for new lab spaces. The office was being renovated, so a plan was need for how the furniture and supplies would go into the new spaces. I originally created simple 2D maps of the three rooms, and added in boxes for furniture. It was the suggested to create a CAD model for easier viewing and furniture manipulation. Above are examples of furniture models and the room layout suggested for the testing room.

Another project I worked on was a joint that would connect a mounting bar for the communication device to a wheelchair. The issue with the current joint was that it relied on friction to hold the bar up, and wore out quickly. The other limitation was the tolerance for the angle, as any movement was amplified through the rest of the joints on the mount. The mount also had to be highly adjustable.

To try to combat these issues, I created a design with two rings of screw holes. This allowed for the tolerance to be small, and the two layers meant it could be adjusted to 15 degrees.

This summer, I also did work in Excel and the Microsoft suite. I also gained experience in engineering research and compliance, as well as contacting manufacturers. I gained the most experience in CAD, specifically SolidWorks, and in real world engineering experience. Thank you to the PRC-Saltillo team for having me this summer!
